Thornbury Fishway

  • PLEASE OBSERVE SOCIAL DISTANCING GUIDELINES. The amazing sight of fish swimming and leaping against the current as they head up river to spawn (rainbow trout in the spring, salmon in the fall). The fishway runs under the bridge that spans the Beaver River. Park your vehicle in the lot next to the Town Hall and make your way to the viewing platforms. Storyboards along the way explain this annual phenomenon of nature.

It is one of only fifteen such reserves in all of Canada. Our Area of the Bruce Trail runs from Lavender to Craigleith. The terrain changes abruptly as the Bruce Trail enters the area known as the Blue Mountains. Here are located Ontario's best-known ski resorts, set among high bluffs interspersed with deep wide valleys. From the Trail, there are excellent views of the rolling countryside and Nottawasaga Bay.

In addition to the big open water of Georgian Bay and Lake Huron, the region features hundreds of smaller lakes, rivers and interconnected waterways and canals. The trails take you along country roads, through dense woodlands and past towering sand dunes and limestone cliffs. And because this area generally gets plenty of snow, it’s a true four-seasons region with trails for snowmobiling, skiing, snowshoeing and hiking in the winter.
